Hey there! Welcome to myWellology. I’m Amber, an escapee from corporate America who, like many out there, found her exit from being a cog in the wheel after Covid turned everything upside down. I spent my career in analytics and operations roles putting out fires and problem solving in order to help things run smoothly and function efficiently. When the fire I needed to put out was happening inside of me, I shifted my focus to learning and understanding everything I could about health, wellness and what impacts the body’s ability to thrive. Turns out, it’s a lot!
According to Merriam-Webster, wellness is the quality or state of being in good health, but what does that really mean? Is it the same for all of us? How does one achieve wellness? Is there an indicator that tells us when we’ve reached it? Once you’re there are you good or is it an ongoing battle?
Wellness has become a bit of a catch phrase lately, with all sorts of companies and people shoving their products, services and opinions at us at every waking moment. You can throw a virtual stone and hit no shortage of podcasts, blogs, books, classes, protocols, supplements and gadgets all touting their ability to make you feel better and live longer. Add to that the fact that traditional medicine largely disagrees with functional (or natural) medicine, and providers in either of those camps rarely spend more than a few minutes working on your concerns and you have an absolutely confusing mess on your hands. If you’ve never delved into the world of wellness let me tell you, it’s overwhelming to say the least.
You might be saying to yourself, “isn’t this just another blog of the same sort mentioned above?” Well, yes but also no. I’m not here to tell you exactly what to do or sell you a $500 wearable. I don’t have a fancy acronym after my name. But I’ve been around the block a time or two and know a few things. I’m here to share my journey with you and what I’ve learned along the way in hopes it makes your adventure into wellness a pinch easier than mine has been. The health and wellness industry is just that – an industry. Navigating the enormous industrial complex of being “healthy” is enough to make most people throw their computer out the window. But that’s not really helpful now is it?
So what will you find here? Epic stories of trial and error. Well, maybe not quite epic but stories nonetheless, some of which may be insightful. The spectrum of things that impact the body’s ability to thrive is wide is far reaching, so everything is on the table from stress and meditation to elimination diets and DNA testing. My goal is to help simplify the process of achieving wellness, helping you find information that leads to aha moments that ultimately ends up helping you feel amazing.
But just as each of us is unique, so is our path to wellness. This is the where the “my” of myWellology comes into play. And this is critical to keep in mind, regardless of whether you’re taking my advice or somebody else’s. It’s not a one size fits all approach. What works for me may not be good for you. This is why it’s a journey. Healing is a process but it’s something we can all do. You just have to want it and be committed. And perhaps be ready to tell anyone or anything that gets in your way to eff off.
